Tee Spills the Tea: My Daily Life in Digital World

Hello everyone!

If you're anything like me, digital media has become a part of your everyday life- or like me, sometimes a little too much! From the minute I open my eyes to the second I shut them at night; my phone is pretty much right there with me. Whether its staying in touch with loved ones, sneaking in a few laughs during the workday, or just scrolling to relax, I'm in it like everyone else in the world.

Here's a little glimpse into what a typical day looks like for me and how digital media weaves its way into every part of it. I'll also touch on how it is changing the way marketing hits us too.

Morning Routine: Yep, I Scroll before I Brush my Teeth

Ok, ok I'll admit it, most mornings I grab my phone before I even roll out of bed. As many times as I tell myself I'm going to stop doing it, it never fails. I'll open Facebook or Instagram first thing just to "check in." Thirty minutes later I'm still scrolling, hooked on memes, reels or posts that were updated overnight. Instagram is dangerous for me because once I get into Reels, its game over. Whether its inspirational quotes, funny fails, or my favorite comedian reels, I'm hooked. It's my comfort routine that I start my day with- even though it almost always makes be late and delays me brushing my teeth more than I like to say out loud.

Work-From-Home Life = Scrolls Between Calls

So, since I work from home it's all too easy for me to check my phone throughout the day.  No bosses looking over my shoulder or having to hide my phone in the corner of my desk. On days when work is slow or I'm stuck on hold, I scroll. Sometimes it's because I'm bored and scrolling keeps me entertained or just to make the time go by.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when I find something funny and send it to my husband, sister or bestie.  We do that all day long.  With my sister and bestie most of our insta inboxes are just reels. It's our way of staying connected even though we are all busy doing our own day to days.

WhatsApp helps with staying in touch with family and friends abroad, and LinkedIn keeps me tapped into my industry- but my go To's are definitely Facebook and Instagram. No question about it!

Digital Media Knows me better Than I Do

Given the amount of time I spend on these apps, it's no wonder they've "learned" my habits. I'll search something one time- like a specific shampoo or sneaker and next thing I know, my whole feed is full of ads for it.

As creepy as this is, let's be honest, it works. I've totally clicked on an ad that popped up after I was talking or searching for something.

How I See Marketing Showing up Differently Now

Digital media has changed marketing in a big way- and its all available right in front of us as we scroll.

People over Product: I'm noticing more brands focusing on people and telling a story rather than just pushing a product. Watching a more relatable commercial of someone that looks like me telling me why they love something draws me in versus watching some flashy commercial.

Influencers that Feel Real: When I first started using social media I followed a lot of celebrities.  Thats changed over the years. I prefer watching regular people sharing their honest reviews or favorite products.  It draws me in. Not to mention, watching these influencers grow, makes me feel like I know them.  It helps build trust.

Tailored Ads: They are everywhere and find me quick. It's totally worked on me a few times and they know how to get me to buy something.  I'm like "How did they know I needed that."

Final Thoughts: Scroll-Life Balance

To be honest, digital media is like a part of the family at this point.  It keeps me connected, informed, entertained, and in all honesty distracted. Life gets busy and if your anything like my it's nice to just forget about things and immerse yourself in reels or memes to help laugh through the chaos.
Sure, I scroll before I brush my teeth. Sure, I send my sister 15 memes a day. And I will admit I've 100% bought things because of an ad that followed me around. It is what it is, but I am also learning to not let it take over me instead I want it to work for me.

I've started to set some boundaries with my scroll time.  When I find myself over scrolling, I stop and tell myself, there's got to be something better I could be doing with my time.  I want to make the changes to being more present when it counts.  I have a very impressionable 10year old and I don't want her saying "but Mom, your always on your phone", when she gets to the age where Shes allowed to be on social media. Lead by example, right? I'm trying. I'm not perfect but progress is better than nothing right?

At the end of the day, we all need a break from reality sometimes. If that means looking and sharing something funny that made me laugh until I cried, then so be it.  I'm getting better at unplugging as well.  Either way, there's no guidebook to this, and that's ok.

Real Talk: Why I Love Following Justin and Ashley Silva

When it comes to social media, I find myself drawn to influencers who feel real,  the ones who make you laugh, who share their life openly, and who honestly feel like you could be friends in real life. That’s exactly why I love following Justin Silva and his wife, Ashley Silva. They aren’t just funny and entertaining, they’re down-to-earth, relatable, and genuinely good people. One thing that makes me feel especially connected to Ashley is that she’s Puerto Rican , just like me. It’s so refreshing to see someone proudly representing our culture while still being completely herself. Their dynamic as a couple is also part of what makes following them so enjoyable. You can tell they love each other, they respect each other, and they don’t try to be perfect. Why Influencer Marketing Works Watching them has made me realize something important about influencer marketing: it doesn’t feel like marketing. When Justin and Ashley share something—whether it’s a product, a brand pa...

How Whirlpool’s “Every day, care” Campaign Connects with Real-Life Consumers

Appliances aren’t usually the most exciting topic, it's no secret. But Whirlpool managed to flip the script with a campaign that didn’t just promote washers and dryers, it celebrated everyday care and the people behind it. Their “Every day, care” campaign became a standout example of how digital media, when used well, can actually meet a consumer’s emotional and practical needs. In a world where we scroll through thousands of ads daily, Whirlpool stood out by focusing less on products and more on people, and that made all the difference.   What Did Whirlpool Do Well? Whirlpool’s campaign focused on the idea that small acts of care such as doing the dishes or folding laundry are more than chores. They’re quiet ways of showing love. Through video storytelling and user-generated content, Whirlpool highlighted everyday families and made them the heroes of the story. This resonated with their core audience: parents, caregivers, and people just trying to hold their homes together...
